Welcome to my very first giveaway here on The Girl Who Read and Other Stories!
I have one hardbound copy of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and some Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3, also by Stiefvater) t-shirts up for grabs, courtesy of Scholastic Philippines. I’m happy and excited to give another reader a chance to read Scorpio because I really liked it. π
The Scorpio Races
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.
At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.
Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasnβt given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition β the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.
Because it’s the Christmas season and it’s my first giveaway, I’ll make it easy for everyone to send in entries.
1. Post a link to this giveaway in your social network accounts and/or your personal blogs. You can post to as many as you like to increase your chances of winning.
2. Post a comment here and list the permalinks/URLs of all your social network/blog entries about the giveaway. One link = one entry.
3. In the same comment post, include the answer to this question after your link list: “In The Scorpio Races, Puck and Sean live in a beautiful island called Thisby. On which island in the Philippines do you wish you can live and not leave?” All you have to do for your entry to qualify is to name an island in the Philippines, but you can share your reasons for wanting to live there if you want to; I genuinely want to know! π Your entries are not valid without your answer to this question.
That’s it!
The 1st Prize Winner will receive a copy of The Scorpio Races and a Forever shirt, and 2 Runners-up will receive 1 Forever shirt each.
You have until December 29th, 11:59pm to send in your entries. The winner will be determined by a Random List Generator and will be announced before 2011 ends. In case one person’s name appears on the Top 3 twice, that person will get the prize with the higher value (if applicable), and the 4th name on the list will move up to 3rd place.
Important note: This contest is open only to residents of the Philippines. If the winner resides outside of the Greater Manila Area, I’ll send the prizes by courier.
Spread the word, and may the odds be ever in your favor! π

I’d love to stay in Palawan. It’s abundance of beauty and peace are my most unforgettable experience of the place. So very different from the noise and clutter of Manila. Really refreshing!!! Mother Nature’s offerings found here will never cease to captivate me and will keep me happy enough to stay for a very long time.

And as to which island in our fair country would I like to live and not leave, any of these will do — Amanpulo, Camiguin, Palawan, Siargao or Cebu. I haven’t been these places yet, but from what I’ve seen and heard so far, it makes me want to book a myself a vacation. π
That was fun. Good luck to all and Happy Holidays! π
congratulations on your first giveaway! (pity i can’t join!)
the philippines has so many beautiful places that it’s so difficult to choose π
hoping you are having a wonderful holidays, meann!
On which island in the Philippines do you wish you can live and not leave?
– I`m already satisfied with my island, Bulacan. Well, if you call that an island. But anyway, I just want it to be peaceful and got everything I need to survive, like, bookstore, mall, and other stuff.

Oh, I would love to go to Palawan! The place is rich in natural resources, and is beautiful. What more can I ask for? Of course, I would like to live there with my love ones para walang emo days. π
Personally, I will still choose the current province I’m living in–BATANGAS! It offers a lot of scenic spots and gooooooooood food! So yeah. π

Palawan definitely because of its sugar-white sandy beaches, rocky coves and virgin forests.
I wish to live in the island of Palawan. Although I haven’t been to Palawan I’ve always dreamed of living there, because Palawan is just so diverse and tranquil.

I fervently believe that the Philippines is an absolutely beautiful country and we are simply blind sided by the dirt and pollution in Manila that we fail to see how beautiful our country is. If I’d be given a chance to live in an island in the Philippines I would definitely choose Palawan and more specifically Amanpulo. I mean, there aren’t any words to describe how breathtakingly beautiful it is:)
As for me, I think I would live in Batanes Islands; and in there I would just read, read, and read far from any human contact and just experience to be one with Nature. π

I am person who loves cold weather (even if I am very lamigin-type of person) because it makes me at ease when reading π I want to be in Baguio FOREVER!
This is so cool! Re-tweeted. π
Coron! I was there two years ago and I want to go back because I feel like I still have so many places to explore there. I really, really want to go back. π

I want to say Sagada mainly because of the weather but thinking twice I think I’ll go for Palawan. From all the places I’ve been to I think Palawan offers the best of everything I need.
